Subway Station In Long Island City Gets 'Facelift'

LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS — Renovations including light fixtures and tile repairs at Long Island City's 21 St-Queensbridge subway station were completed, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced Monday.

Crews at the station renewed the main entrance awning, repaired concrete and tiles, installed new LED fixtures in poorly lit areas of the station, and fixed damaged stairways.

The entire station was also scraped, primed, and painted.

The enhancements are part of the MTA's plan to renovate 50 subway stations by the end of 2023. The agency has completed repairs at 17 stations so far this year.

“Whenever a New Yorker heads up or down those steps to enter our subway system, they deserve to walk into a station that is clean, safe and welcoming," said Queens Borough President Donovan Richards. "Thank you to the MTA for its work to give the 21st Street – Queensbridge station a facelift and create an inviting space for our neighbors as they go about their commutes."

The MTA said it's on track to complete 34 stations by the end of June as part of its Station Re-NEW-vation Program, which started in The Bronx in the summer of 2022.
