Teen Cyclist Killed By Runaway SUV Driver In Astoria, NYPD Says

The teen's death comes two months after the death of Dolma Naadhun, the 7-year-old who was fatally struck in February in Astoria.

ASTORIA, QUEENS — A 16-year-old boy was killed Monday night after an SUV driver struck him on 21st St. and then fled in Astoria, police said.

The teenager was riding his bike about 9:30 p.m. near 21st Avenue and 21st St. when an SUV driver struck him and then fled, the NYPD said.

The 6-year-old was taken to Harlem Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

No arrests have been made, and the search for the driver remains ongoing, cops said.

The teen's death comes as residents are still grieving the death of Dolma Naadhun, the 7-year-old who was fatally struck by a driver at an intersection in Astoria in February.

The frequent accidents in the neighborhood have spurred local outcry over pedestrian safety.

Last month, residents in Astoria flocked to the NYPD's monthly precinct meeting to hold officers accountable for their policing in the neighborhood. Among the issues they pointed out were drivers constantly running red lights and the bus lane issues sparked by the 21st St. redesign.
