A Long Island City man is behind bars for allegedly shooting a man in broad daylight in Astoria this weekend.

ASTORIA, QUEENS -- A Long Island City man is behind bars for allegedly shooting a 20-year-old Queens man to death in broad daylight this weekend.
Javyn McNish, 19, was arraigned Monday on murder charges after he allegedly opened fire on Jarrel Lewis, of Astoria, on Saturday afternoon, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said. Police found Lewis lying unconscious near 36th Avenue and 14th Street with bullet wounds to his chest, torso and arm, Patch previously reported.
Brown said a man police identified as McNish is shown on surveillance footage fatally shooting Lewis at around 4 p.m. on Dec. 2. Medics responding to the scene rushed Lewis to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he later died.

“The defendant showed no respect for human life when he viciously shot a 20-year-old man who had a long life ahead of him," Brown said. "He will be vigorously prosecuted.”
McNish was arraigned on charges of second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, according to the district attorney's office. He is being held without bail until his next hearing on Dec. 18. If convicted, he faces anywhere from 25 years to life in prison.
