Annual Soldier Ride Raises Over $160K To Support Wounded Warriors

The 25-mile bike ride allows residents and injured veterans to ride together, to raise awareness for the nation's wounded heroes.

LINDENHURST, NY — The Town of Babylon's 17th Annual Babylon Soldier Ride raised over $160,000 on July 19 to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project and Paws of War, an organization dedicated to enhancing veterans' lives by rescuing and training service dogs.

Forty wounded U.S. military veterans and hundreds of other participants gathered for the 25-mile bike ride from Babylon Town Hall to Overlook Beach to raise awareness for the nation's "wounded warriors."

During an opening ceremony, Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer spoke to the crowd.

"The Soldier Ride exemplifies our community's commitment to honoring and supporting our veterans," he said. "Each year, we come together to help these brave individuals find strength and healing through camaraderie and shared experience."

Also in attendance were Wounded Warrior Project CEO Walt Piatt and Marine Veteran and Adaptive Sports Director Mike Owens, who shared his personal journey and the importance of events like the Soldier Ride in fostering recovery and empowerment for veterans.

"This event is more than just a ride; it’s a celebration of resilience and community spirit," said Veterans Advisory Council Chair DuWayne Gregory. "Our veterans deserve our unwavering support, and the Soldier Ride provides a platform for that."

When the race concluded at Overlook Beach, participants and community members gathered for a celebratory barbeque, honoring the warriors’ achievements and the community's collective effort in supporting veteran causes.

Over the past 17 years, the Town of Babylon has raised more than $1.5 million for the Wounded Warrior Project, showcasing a longstanding commitment to supporting veterans.
