DOT Traffic Cameras Installed On Babylon Village Roads
Traffic cameras installed on several roads in Babylon Village will track traffic volume, officials announce.

BABYLON VILLAGE, NY —Traffic cameras have been installed on several roads in Babylon Village to track traffic volume, officials announced Wednesday.
In a statement to residents, village officials said that the New York State Department of Transportation has been authorized by the U.S. Department of Transportation to count data on "any public roadway."
According to the statement, "the amount of traffic volume will which be used to assist with the development of a reasonably accurate estimate of the traffic and vehicle miles of travel that occur on roadways."

The cameras will only be utilized to collect the traffic volume and once data is recorded, footage will be deleted, the statement said.
A traffic count contractor installed the cameras on August 4 "to collect the volume and class data as per federal requirement." The cameras will be removed by Saturday, August 10, officials said.

Cameras have been installed on the following village roads:
- Deer Park Avenue Route 27A Main Street and Park Avenue
- Locust Avenue Little E. Neck Road and N. Carll Avenue
- Beverly Road (Babylon Village Line) Livingston Avenue
- Fire Island Avenue (Culdesac) Babylon Village Dock
