Elementary School's Giving Tree a Success

Giving Tree gives students opportunity to serve community during the holidays.

The Babylon Elementary School's students took part in a Giving Tree program throughout the month of December, helping out local families.

The program was organized by administrative assistant Kathy Reynolds and helped five local Babylon Village families this holiday season.

"We would like to share our joy by giving small gifts to make their holiday more festive," Reynolds wrote in a message home to families.

“I think it is essential to teach the importance of giving, helping others and experiencing a sense of selflessness,” said Principal Jessica Kemler. “We have a ‘kindness counts’ initiative where we celebrate random acts of kindness, and this is just another way we are teaching our students that concept.”

With donations ranging from warm clothing to children’s toys, the Giving Tree was an opportunity for the school’s youngest students to learn a valuable lesson in community service.
