Fourth-grade student Arpitha Vinod of Forest Avenue Elementary School in the West Babylon School District was recently selected as the second-place winner of the Gambone Writing Contest, sponsored by the Long Island Language Arts Council.

Arpitha was required to submit two writing pieces. The first was a thematic piece written in the genre of her choosing, governed by the designated theme “A Leader Is….” The second submission was her favorite piece of writing taken from her own portfolio.

She and her teacher, Tracey Germano, were honored at LILAC’s annual spring luncheon, where published poet Matt Pasca spoke to attendees. Arpitha was awarded a $50 gift card and a set of books.
