Hometown Hero: North Babylon Teen Honored With Heroism Award
Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer has declared North Babylon teen Ryan Ticas a hero.
NORTH BABYLON, NY — North Babylon has a true hometown hero—and he's a local teenager.
His name is Ryan Ticas, a 15-year-old resident of North Babylon who was presented with the Town of Babylon's Heroism Award—the Town’s highest honor—for helping an injured man at Cedar Beach in mid-July.
According to town officials, Ryan was at Cedar Beach with his father, Roberto Ticas, when he noticed an elderly man in distress who struggling to maintain his balance while calling for help.

Ryan noticed the man was bleeding and rushed to help the man. He brought him to shore and alerted lifeguards. Shortly after, the man was airlifted via helicopter to a trauma center.
After Supervisor Rich Schaffer and the town board presented Ryan with the town's prestigious Heroism Award, Ryan's officially a hero.
