Pet Of The Week: 'Affectionate, Loving ' Lainey 'Desperately Needs A Hero'
"These are scary times for all the dogs. We are pleading to our community to take a chance and meet your new best friend."- C. Franke.
BABYLON, NY — Lainey is an "affectionate and loving" boxer-bulldog mix who's looking for her forever family, and she's Patch's Pet of the Week.
According to longtime shelter volunteer Christine Franke, Lainey is "shy, super silly, very sweet," and "she desperately needs a home."
Franke said she's now a year old, and arrived at the shelter two months ago, "very skinny, neglected and scared."

But, Franke said, she "has come a very long way" and "desperately needs to find her hero."
"I love her so much," said shelter staff member Lyndsey Grosjean.

Franke added that Lainey "loves all dogs" but would do best in a home without small children.

In early July, the shelter issued a plea for help amidst a "critical shortage" of fosters and adoption as cages neared max capacity.
In a statement, Franke said they are "looking for the assistance of the public" while facing a "critical shortage" of foster and adoptive families.
"We have two cages open and it is imperative that we keep cages available for stray animals," the statement continued.
Normal adoption hours at the shelter are Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Shelter staff are also happy to train interested dog lovers, Franke said. There's also an abundance of bunnies, kittens, and cats to spend time with too.
