Pet Of The Week: Buck Is A 'Laid-back, Cuddly, And Loving' Cane Corso

BABYLON, NY — Buck is a 6-year-old brindle male Cane Corso who resides at the Babylon Animal Shelter. He's Patch's Pet of the Week.

"Buck is a sweet, sweet boy. He loves to take leisurely walks, lay in the sun, and receive snacks like the king he is," said shelter staff member Lyndsey Grosjean. "Buck is also a good boy at the vet and with handling."

According to longtime shelter volunteer Christine Franke, Buck is the shelter's go-to dog to introduce families wanting to pet and meet one of the shelter’s residents.

"He will happily greet anyone with a wagging tail and enjoy some much-deserved pats on the head," Franke said. "He's laid-back, cuddly, loving, and gentle despite his size, especially with kids."

Franke said that Buck came from a "neglected breeding situation" and has been waiting "too long" to find his forever home.

"We would love to have him in a loving home for the holidays," she said.

Franke said that Buck’s ideal new family would be a loving, dog-free home with a fenced backyard where he could lay in the sun and receive "all the belly rubs he deserves."

"He is a smart boy who knows his commands and is ready for his people to find him," she added.

Normal adoption hours at the shelter are Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The shelter needs volunteers, especially experienced large dog handlers and staff is happy to train interested dog lovers.

There's also an abundance of bunnies, kittens, and cats to spend time with too, Franke said.
