Town Of Babylon Announces Summer Fun Activities

Summer programs offered by the Town of Babylon will cover sailing, sports, photography, music, gardening and more.

BABYLON, NY — Summer is right around the corner as June 20 officially marks the beginning of long days and balmy nights.

While kids are out of school for months and parents balance work and fun, the Town of Babylon has put together a long list of activities to keep kids occupied and get everyone outside enjoying the warm weather.

From stand-up paddleboard yoga to art and sports, there's something for everyone this summer. The list is below but for more information and to sign up visit the Town of Babylon Park and Recreation here or call 631-893-2100.

Sailing lessons: A fun, educational and safe sailing experience on the Great South BayLife jackets will be provided. Classes will meet at the dock at Tanner Park Marina. Different courses for women, novices and an evening sailing are offered.

Basketball: New this summer! The Town of Babylon Parks Department will be offering a summer basketball league at Tanner Park! The program will consist of two weeks of skills and drills, and 4 weeks of games. Participants will be broken up into six teams per age group.

Dance: Offered for adults and children over 18-months-old by Great South Bay Dance at 187 Broadway in Amityville.

Martial Arts: Estrada Martial Arts Academy will offer summer and fall introductory specials in Taekwondo/Self-Defense, Korean Sword Art, and Traditional Korean Archery. This program is designed to develop and improve self discipline, concentration, self esteem, and build confidence while having fun.

Musical Theater: The Town of Babylon Musical Theatre Program will cover vocal, dance, and acting techniques. Participants will audition and go through the rehearsal process throughout the program. Students will close the summer with a culminating performance of The Little Mermaid Jr (Ages 6-10) and 13 Jr (Ages 11-14).

Guitar Camp: The Town of Babylon Music Program will be offering residents a guitar camp for students interested in learning about different styles of music ranging from classical guitar to blues to pop/rock. The material covered will include artists within the style of music, theory behind the style, and melodic and patterns of the style.

Stand-up Paddle Board Yoga & SUP Lessons: Deanna Arecco, owner of Salty Soul Yoga is a 500 hour registered Yoga Alliance yoga instructor and Yoga Alliance continuing education provider. Salty Soul will provide participants with all necessary equipment (board or boat, paddle, leash, whistle, personal flotation device). All classes begin with a land based tutorial that encompasses getting on and off the equipment, technique and a comprehensive safety lesson.

Yoga At Cedar Beach: Classes are taught by certified yoga instructor Eugene Feis, who holds certificates in Dharma Yoga (200 hour RYT) and Barkan Yoga (500 hour RYT). Each 75-minute class will include breathing (pranayama), meditation, and asana poses, concluding with a deep-healing resting pose (shavasana).

Photography & Podcasting: This four week course will cover the basics of operating a camera such as the exposure triangle, the modes of the camera, and finding the best light to shoot in as well as learning the basics of editing.

Wire Jewelry Making: This daytime course with jewelry designer/instructor Donna Irvine is designed for people with any jewelry making skill level.

Geiger Garden Workshops: Join Town Horticulturist Jenny Ulsheimer & Groundskeeper Danny Raccomandato for a presentation on the history and future of the Carll's River Botanical Garden on Tuesday, March 26th at 6 p.m.

Exploration In Writing: This workshop will look at various types of writing genres and then give you the opportunity to discover your inner author. Please join this lively group for wonderful conversation and exploration into your own inner author.

Bocce Program: The Babylon Bocce Club is happy to announce Bocce Camp at the newly renovated state of the art Tanner Park Bocce Courts. During the 4-week camp, instructors will teach the “Open Rules” of bocce along with the history, rules, and strategies of the sport of bocce.
