W. Babylon Junior High Students Discover Power to Learn

Students performed skits bringing awareness to the problem of cyberbullying.

Students of West Babylon Junior High School recently took part in a Cablevision Power to Learn program that focused on the effects of cyberbullying.

Administrators, members of the Board of Education, representatives from Cablevision and Sen. Phil Boyle attended the Power to Learn presentation in which members of the school’s Mock Trial team and S.O.S. (Stories of Substance) group performed skits that depicted scenes of cyberbullying, bringing a greater awareness of the problem to students and offering them ways to be “upstanders” as opposed to bystanders.

“When we use the Internet, the world is limitless,” Sen. Boyle said in his address to the young audience. “We can discover things beyond our imagination, but there is a true danger involved because what you put out there can hurt other people. I encourage you all to use the Internet for good and be mindful of your actions.”
