2 Separate Drivers Travel Wrong Way On Southern State: Police
The drivers scarcely avoided tragic accidents this weekend, after driving the wrong way, state police say.
BAY SHORE, NY — A tragic accident was avoided this weekend, after two separate cars went the wrong way on the Southern State Parkway, New York State Police said.
At about 9:30 p.m. on Friday, a vehicle was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes near Exit 42 near Bay Shore, police said.
Officers were able to stop the operator of the vehicle without any incidents. Police later determined that the driver had been reported missing.

The driver was later turned over to Suffolk County Detectives and reunited with family.
Then, just after 5 a.m. on Saturday, troopers responded to another call of a vehicle driving the wrong way in the same area.

Officers managed to stop the driver of a car traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of the Southern State Parkway, entering the Sagtikos State Parkway northbound in the southbound ramp.
The driver was from out of state, and taken to a local hospital, police said.
