Animal Cruelty Charge For LI Woman Who Kept Birds Confined In Extreme Heat: SPCA

BAY SHORE, NY — A woman has been charged with animal cruelty after keeping 41 birds—including ducks and chickens—outside in temperatures nearing 100 degrees, according to the Suffolk County SPCA.

Jacqueline Godoy, 57, of Bay Shore, was charged with animal cruelty on Tuesday after allegedly confining 41 birds in poor outdoor conditions without clean water during extreme temperatures near 100 degrees, Gross said.

Gross said SPCA detectives and the Town of Islip Fire Marshal's Office removed the birds from the property with help from John DiLeonardo of Humane Long Island and his staff, who moved the animals to a safe location.

Godoy was charged with animal cruelty and neglect of an impounded animal and is slated to appear in First District Court on July 14 at 9 a.m., Gross said.

The property was deemed unfit for human occupancy by the Town of Islip, Gross said.
