Bay Shore Alum Makes Yankees Debut At Oakland Game

BAY SHORE, NY — A Bay Shore native made his debut for the New York Yankees on Thursday night.

Greg Weissert, 27, pitched for the Bronx team against the Oakland A's, entering in the seventh inning.

And he may have felt some jitters.

According to the New York Post, he beaned Jonah Bride with his first pitch. A subsequent balk sent Bride to second. Weissert then beaned Skye Bolt with his second pitch, putting runners on first and second.

Weissert later got Nick Allen to fly out to center, but it was the only out he recorded; he then walked Tony Kemp to load the bases, and then Vimael Machin forcing in a run.

Weissert was called up for the game from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, replacing starter Nestor Cortes.
