Bay Shore Firefighters Extinguish Vehicle Blaze On Southern State

The Bay Shore Fire Department extinguished a vehicle fire on Southern State Parkway on Thursday.

BAY SHORE, NY — A vehicle fire on the Southern State Parkway caused eastbound lane closures on Thursday afternoon according to the Bay Shore Fire Department who successfully put out the fire.

"No one was injured," First Assistant Chief John Ippolito Jr. told Patch.

According to Chief Ippolito, firefighters responded to a vehicle fire on the eastbound Southern State Parkway east of exit 41A. First on scene was Chief of Department Roy L. Ekelund who transmitted an "involved vehicle fire and gave orders to responding Bay Shore FD units."

"After a quick size up of the scene Chief Ekelund determined that at least three engines would be needed," the fire department wrote on a Facebook post.

Mutual aid was provided by Bay Shore Engine Co. 1 and E3-1-2 was first with Bay Shore Hose Company #1 and Bay Shore Penataquit Hose Co. #1 following.

Under the command of Chief Ekelund, Chief Ippolito lead operations while crews knocked down the vehicle and brush fires.

Also on scene were New York State Troopers, SCPD 3rd Precinct, and the Department of Transportation, officials said.
