Bay Shore Parade On: "Stay Calm And March On," Organizer Says
The popular St. Patrick's Day Parade will not be canceled over worries about COVID-19 transmission.

BAY SHORE, NY — Boston and Dublin have canceled their St. Patrick's Day parades, and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is having conversations with the New York parade committee about what to do in the face of New York's rising COVID-19 cases. Bay Shore's St. Patrick's Day parade, however, will go on. The parade kicks off on Saturday, March 14th at 2 p.m.
Marybeth Tregarthen, secretary of the parade committee, told Patch the "parade is on. We are saying stay calm and march on. We are a go."
As cases of the new coronavirus increase on Long Island—Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone announced today there are now six confirmed cases—many gatherings are being postponed or canceled as fears of community transmission spread. Numerous national events such as the Coachella music festival, sporting events and conferences have been postponed or canceled in recent weeks. On Wednesday, White Plains and Yonkers announced their upcoming parades are being rescheduled. Pittsburgh and Chicago are two more cities that announced cancelations.
