Breeze Airways Adds New Flight Destination From Long Island

Breeze Airways has announced a new roundtrip flight from Long Island MacArthur Airport to a warmer, southern state just in time for summer.

ISLIP, NY — Breeze Airways will soon offer direct flights from Long Island MacArthur Airport to Wilmington, NC, the budget airline announced at a press conference at the airport on Wednesday.

Starting Oct. 2, the direct route will fly twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays on the airlines' new Airbus A220 aircraft.

Breeze is offering limited introductory fares as low as $49 beginning today at flybreeze.com and on the free Breeze app.

"Breeze Airways continues to grow at MacArthur Airport and we could not be happier with the carrier’s commitment to our ISP loyal customers and the Long Island community," said Town of Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter.

The Long Island airport, which is about 50 miles away from New York City and is the closest airport to around 2.8 million residents, has experienced significant growth in the last year.

According to aviation news website Simple Flying, there will be 28 percent more takeoffs at MacArthur this summer than during the same period last year, and 11 percent more than pre-pandemic 2019 levels.

The estimate follows several new and recent flight additions out of MacArthur on both Breeze and JetBlue.

In October 2024, Breeze began flying roundtrip between Fort Myers and MacArthur. Also in October, JetBlue launched daily flights between Islip and Orlando, and flights between Islip and Fort Lauderdale and Islip and Palm Beach, both four times a week. In November, Breeze started flying directly from Islip to Sarasota, FL.

In early 2025, New York State committed to invest a "transformational" $150 million to connect the Long Island Rail Road’s Ronkonkoma Station with the proposed $40 million North Terminal at MacArthur Airport, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced.

"We’ve worked hard both on air service development and preparing the airport terminal and airfield to welcome airlines and the fun new destinations and travel opportunities they bring," said Airport Commissioner Shelley LaRose-Arken. "The Wilmington, NC region is quickly rising in terms of popularity. It’s a gateway to beautiful beaches and boardwalks with a wide variety of outdoor activities that Long Islanders enjoy."

According to Breeze.com, the airline now serves 13 destinations from Islip, including New Orleans, Louisiana; Charleston, South Carolina; Richmond and Norfolk, Virginia; Wilmington and Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina; Vero Beach, West Palm Beach, Tampa, Orlando, Fort Myers, Sarasota and Jacksonville, Florida.
