BAY SHORE, NY — Two Suffolk County police officers saved a man's life over the weekend.
According to police, a Bay Shore man was choking on a piece of food when he called 911 on Sunday. He then went outside and started throwing himself against his car in an attempt to dislodge the food, police said.
Third Precinct Police Officers Frank Gigante and Giuseppe Mariano responded and successfully performed the abdominal thrust—formerly called the Heimlich maneuver—making it possible for the man to breathe and saving his life, police said.
