Car Gets Stuck On Long Island Railroad Tracks: MTA Police

BRIGHTWATERS, NY —A person drove a gray hatchback onto the Long Island Railroad tracks in Brightwaters between Aberdeen Road and Woodland Drive Monday afternoon, MTA police confirmed with Patch.

MTA police confirmed the incident with Patch, and said "the driver of the car had bad directions and accidentally ended up on the tracks."

LIRR suspended service, removed the vehicle, and service resumed Monday evening, the MTA said.

MTA police said that no one was injured.

The incident came one day after Basilio Hidalgo, 40, of Brooklyn, drove his SUV onto the Long Island Rail Road tracks west of the Elmont-UBS Arena station on Sunday.

He drove approximately half a mile east on the tracks, just east of the Bellerose station, and stopped after two of his vehicle's tires ignited, the MTA said.

Hidalgo was arrested and charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree criminal trespassing and driving while intoxicated, the MTA police said.
