“We remain sensitive to safety concerns of our residents, and will continue to move forward, ridding the Town of Islip of these eyesores," said Supervisor Carpenter. "Myself and the entire Town Board are committed to ensuring that all residents in the Town enjoy a quality of life, and we will continue to fight for the removal of such neglected and dangerous properties in our neighborhoods.”

A subsequent follow-up report from the Town’s Code Investigator resulted in a declaration of immediate hazard from the Town’s Chief Building Inspector, a release said.

Peggy Miller of Bay Shore grew up in the E. 3rd St. home with her mother, sister, aunt, uncle and six cousins, and later bought a house directly next door.

“I am happy that it is being demolished because of the decay of the house. I am sad because this was once my home," said Miller, who watched the demolition. "There were also too many people running in and out of it over the years.”
