Firefighters Battle RV Blaze That Injures 1: FD

Long Island firefighters battled a blaze that broke out in a mobile home with jet skis and propane tanks nearby, Suffolk county police say.

BAY SHORE, NY — Long Island firefighters battled a blaze that broke out in a mobile home with jet skis and propane tanks on site on Monday, Suffolk County police told Patch.

The Bay Shore Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire at 193 Main St. in Bay Shore around 1:30 p.m. and upon arrival, found a mobile home fire with jet skis and propane tanks involved, just "inches" from a commercial structure, officials said.

According to the fire department, the first engine was on scene within three minutes from the time of activation. Crews quickly stretched hose-lines and began extinguishing the fire to prevent the building from catching fire, officials said.

Firefighters said that due to the presence of near-full propane tanks, the Town of Islip Hazmat team was called for a "burn-off."

According to fire department officials, one civilian reported minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Mutual aid was provided by West Islip Fire Department and the Town of Islip Fire Marshal.

Police said the arson squad is investigating.
