Firefighters Rescue Woman Trapped In Burning LI Home: FD
Long Island firefighters rescued a woman from a fire that hospitalized her with critical injuries and injured 2 firefighters, police say.
BAY SHORE, NY — A woman was hospitalized with critical injuries after firefighters rescued her from a raging house fire on Monday afternoon, according to officials.
The Bay Shore Fire Department 2nd Assistant Chief Kyle Voges and Bay Shore Hose Company E3-1-1 responded to a 911 call reporting a house fire on North 1st Avenue around 12:30 p.m., officials said.
Upon arrival, Chief Voges was told that there was a possibility that there was an occupant inside the home. The crew of E3-1-1 led by Past Captain Frank Marzillo tried to enter the home to search for the occupant, but first, crews had to remove security bars that were installed over windows and doors, firefighters said.

Once crews entered the home, they found an active fire on the first floor and Captain Marzillo located the occupant, Susanah Morris-Sweeting, 65, and requested assistance in removal, officials said.
Firefighters said that with the assistance of Past Captain Anthony Ippolito, firefighters Greg Sesso and Islip Fire Department Past Chief Tom Farrell, Captain Marzillo was able to remove Morris-Sweeting from the burning home. She was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore before being transferred to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of critical injuries, Suffolk police said.

Two firefighters were treated for minor injuries, officials said.
All units on scene were under the command of Chief of Department John Ippolito, Jr. and released at around 2:30 p.m., firefighters said.
Mutual aid was provided by the Islip, Brentwood, East Islip and Islip Terrace fire departments, East Islip Hook and Ladder Co 1, West Islip Union Hook & Ladder Co. 4, and Suffolk FRES, officials said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Anyone with information may contact Arson Section detectives at 631-852-6024.
