First LI Baby Of 2024 Born At South Shore Hospital In Bay Shore
Her father said they could hear hospital staff counting down to the new year as they were in the delivery room.

BAY SHORE, NY – The first baby born on Long Island in 2024 was welcomed into the world at South Shore University Hospital a few minutes after midnight, according to Northwell Health officials.
Kelsy Janel Reyes, a healthy baby girl, was born at 12:10 a.m. at the Bay Shore facility.
First-time mom Dora Lilian Mendez Henriquez spent 10 hours in labor. Rudy Reyes, Kelsy’s
father, said they could hear hospital staff counting down to the new year as they were in the
delivery room.

Minutes later — weighing in at 6 pounds, 12 ounces — Kelsy was born.
Henriquez, 23, and Rudy, 33, are both originally from El Salvador. The couple now lives in
Central Islip.
