Hit-And-Run Driver In Fatal Crash Arrested On LI: Police

The driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash on Long Island has been arrested, according to Suffolk County police.

BAY SHORE, NY — The driver who fled the scene of a hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian on Long Island has been arrested, according to Suffolk County police.

Alexander Cerda, 21, of Bay Shore, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash involving a fatality, third-degree grand larceny and third-degree criminal mischief, police said.

On Saturday morning around 2 a.m., a pedestrian identified as Eric Perez, 52, of Bay Shore, was attempting to cross Main Street, near Shore Lane, when Cerda allegedly hit and killed him, police said.

Perez was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Cerda is slated to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Thursday.
