Man Killed, Suffolk Cop Seriously Hurt In Head-On Crash

BAY SHORE, NY – A 28-year-old man was killed and a Suffolk County Police officer was seriously injured in a head-on crash in Bay Shore Sunday morning.

According to police, Ever Menjivar, of Brentwood, was driving a Honda Civic south on Fifth Avenue when he veered into the northbound lanes and struck the police car in front of 1460 Fifth Ave. at about 6:10 a.m.

Menjivar was pronounced dead at the scene. A Third Precinct police officer officer was airlifted via Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

The vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6555.
