New Discount Department Store Opening On Long Island Soon

New Jersey-based Burlington Stores will open a new location on Long Island this year, occupying a former Big Lots building, a rep says.

BAY SHORE, NY — A new Burlington store will open on Long Island soon, a store representative told Patch.

The New Jersey-based "off-price" retailer will open its doors sometime this fall in the former Big Lots location at 1851 Sunrise Hwy. in Bay Shore, the rep said.

"The new store will create approximately 65 to 75 jobs in the community," the rep told Patch.

Bay Shore's Burlington will offer a wide assortment of discounted brand-name ladies, men’s, kids and baby apparel and accessories, home decor and more, up to 60 percent off other retailers' prices

"We are thrilled to bring a new store to the Bay Shore community, offering residents our everyday low prices on a wide assortment of brand-name merchandise for the entire family and home," the rep said.

The Bay Shore location will join other Long Island Burlington stores located in Riverhead, Selden, Patchogue, Farmingville, Commack, Stony Brook, West Babylon and Massapequa.

According to Burlington's website, the Company started as Burlington Coat Factory more than 50 years ago, selling off-price coats out of a factory building. Today, the chain is known as Burlington Stores and currently has more than 1,108 stores operating nationwide in 46 states, Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico.

The nationwide chain has grown from a single store operating out of a factory in Burlington, New Jersey, where it still maintains its headquarters. In 2024, Burlington had fiscal net sales of $10.6 billion as a Fortune 500 company with its common stock traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol "BURL."
