Pedestrian Struck By Truck In Bay Shore, Seriously Injured: Police

The person attempted to jog in front of the truck at the time, police say.

BAY SHORE, NY — A pedestrian is seriously injured after they were struck by a truck in Bay Shore on Monday, Suffolk County Police said.

The driver of a 2019 International Box Truck was traveling southbound on 5th Avenue at about 4:04 p.m.when a pedestrian attempted to jog from east to west across the road.

The vehicle swerved to avoid the man, but struck him, police said.

The pedestrian, who has not yet been identified by police, was taken via Brentwood Legion
Ambulance to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of serious physical injuries, police said.

The driver of the truck, an East Islip man, was not injured.

Motor Carrier Safety Section officers responded to the scene and completed a safety inspection of the truck. Anyone with information about this crash is asked to contact the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
