BAY SHORE, NY—A new cocktail bar has opened in Bay Shore, but if it's hard to find, that's somewhat by design. Goldy's Gems took over the former Southside Bar, a historic building at 5 Third Ave., with a speakeasy vibe.

The cocktail bar, owned by Lessing's Hospitality Group, also has an outpost of Lessing's pop-up style friend and hot chicken menu, dubbed Lucky Clucker.

The bar opened in mid-December in a space that's been a bar since the 1930s and still features an original bar from that era. The exterior of the long-standing space, once part of the Southside Hotel, has been updated, and now sports the new name in a retro-style font. Inside, a disco ball and a DJ booth add to the atmosphere.
