
LONG ISLAND, NY — A tornado watch has been issued for Long Island as the remnants of Ida slam the region Wednesday.
The tornado watch is in effect until 1 a.m. Thursday.
Tornadoes are possible in and near the watch area. Review and discuss your emergency plans and check supplies and your safe room, the National Weather Service says. Be ready to act quickly if a warning is issued or you suspect a tornado is approaching.

A tornado was confirmed to have touched down in Maryland Wednesday afternoon and there have been suspected tornadoes in Pennsylvania and New Jersey as well.
On Long Island, a flash flood watch is in effect until 2 p.m. Thursday. Up to 6 inches of rain is possible through Thursday morning.
