Word of the Week - Clean Swell

A (free) app to amplify clean up efforts

Clean Swell is a (free) app from the Ocean Conservancy that is used by cleanup volunteers to track the types and amount of litter they collect. The data is automatically added to an international database which helps drive litter reducing policies, such as plastic bag bans.

Save the Great South Bay has teamed up with Ocean Conservancy to automatically tag any litter collected between Masspaequa and Mastic Beach as being saved from entering the Bay.

Save the Great South Bay truly appreciates all the folks who lend a hand and help keep litter out of our waterways, whether it's at one of our creek cleanups or on their own. As most litter eventually makes its way into the Great South Bay through storm drains and other means, tracking the amounts and types of litter we pick up helps us measure our efforts.

Using the Clean Swell app, for clean ups of any size, amplifies those efforts even further by contributing to the bigger picture. The data collected is accessed by researchers and policy makers to drive decisions regarding pollution.

All volunteers at our Creek Defender events are taught how to use this app to record the litter they find and remove throughout the day. Amplify YOUR efforts and contribute to something bigger by using the Clean Swell App.
