QUEENS, NY — Two teenage boys died Friday after falling into Jamaica Bay, the site of many drownings, police officials said.

The boys, both 13 years old, were hanging out on a sandbar near Beach 121st Street in Rockaway Park when they fell into the water around 11:40 a.m., police officials said.

First responder divers and rescue crews rushed to Jamaica Bay and rescued one teenager about an hour later, according to the NYPD.

It reportedly took rescue crews another 45 minutes to find the other boy.
