Bayside Nurse Wins Statewide Recognition Award

BAYSIDE, QUEENS — A nurse who's been working at a Bayside hospital for more than 15 years was named the best nurse of the year by a statewide association.

Miriam Adelson, a nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital for Children in Bayside, was awarded the 2023 Licensed Practical Nurse of the Year Award from the New York State Health Facilities Association/New York State Center for Assisted Living.

Adelson received the award on May 10th at the association's banquet during the annual conference in Verona, New York.

"This award is a testament to the work we do every day at St. Mary's to provide the highest level of care to some of New York City’s most critically ill and injured children," she said.

Adelson started working for the children's hospital in 2006 and is currently a member of the Council of Nursing Excellence.

The association handed out other awards, including in the categories of Registered Nurse of the Year, Licensed Practical Nurse of the Year, Certified Nursing Assistant of the Year; Manager of the Year, and Heart and Hands Award.
