Brown Water In Bayside? Water Main Break Causing Discolored Water: DEP
The Department of Environmental Protection said Thursday that a water main break was causing temporary discolored water.
BAYSIDE, QUEENS — Residents in Bayside were reporting brown water coming out of their faucets on Thursday, causing confusion in the neighborhood, but city officials confirmed crews are flushing out the discolored water from the pipes.

Crews were working to repair the water main on Thursday, and they opened fire hydrants in the area to flush out the discolored water from the system.

"Residents are advised to run their tap until the water is clear and cold," a spokesperson for the Department of Environmental Protection told Patch.
A spokesperson for Council Member Vickie Paladino, who represents Bayside, said the main break occurred on Cloverdale Boulevard between 223rd Street and Northern Boulevard.

"An unscheduled shutdown was made on the 12-inch main and the area was disturbed causing the discolored water," she said.
