College Point Group Gets Funds To Create Behavioral Health Positions

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez secured $382,174 to create three behavioral health positions to help people with developmental disabilities.

BAYSIDE, QUEENS — A nonprofit in College Point is expected to receive hundreds of thousands of dollars to help people with developmental disabilities.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez secured $382,174 to create three behavioral health positions to provide services to the more than 400 people in AABR Inc., a non-profit organization for individuals with developmental disabilities, the lawmaker said on Tuesday.

Ocasio-Cortez also secured over $15 million for projects in Queens and the Bronx, including pre-K programming, community violence interventions, and workforce training in green jobs.

“We’re looking forward to following the success of these community projects as they come to life,” said Ocasio-Cortez on Tuesday.

The incoming behavioral health providers at the nonprofit, located at 15-08 College Point Ave., will receive specialized training from experts at the Northwell Health Support Trauma Recovery for Youth with Developmental Disabilities Center.
