5 Things You Should Know This Week
Bobby Brown, Johnny Gill, Ralph Tresvant and an oral history project, all this week!

1. Performing at this week’s Martin Luther King Concert series is Heads of State, featuring Bobby Brown, Johnny Gill and Ralph Tresvant. The free concerts is tonight, Monday, August 6, at Wingate Field, with entrances on Brooklyn Avenue between Rutland Road and Winthrop Street. The public is encouraged to bring its own chairs. A limited amount of general seating is available on a first come, first served basis. The program begins at 7:30pm.
2. There are weekday and weeknight planned service changes for the J subway line: Beginning at 12:01 a.m. until 5:00 a.m. Thursday, August 9, J service operates in three sections:
1. Between Jamaica Center and Essex St.
2. Between Essex St and Chambers St.
3. Between Chambers St and Broad St.
• To continue your trip, transfer at Essex St or Chambers St.

Last year, Bed-Stuy Patch introduced readers to the Macon MacDonough Stuyvesant Lewis (MMSL) Block Association Oral History Project, which profiled several history-keepers of Bed-Stuy’s development and growth. On Thursday August 9, the Oral History Project will induct five new local historians at a fundraiser, at 6:30 p.m. at the Akwaaba Mansion. $20 in advance, $30 at the door.

4. On Thursday, August 9, at 8:00 p.m., Celebrate Brooklyn presents Complexions Contemporary Ballet, a free performance at Prospect Park Bandshell, located at Prospect Park West and 9th Street.
5. The FAB Alliance is hosting FREE CONCERTS FOR KIDS beginning every Friday, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. with live performances for children outdoors at the new Putnam Triangle Plaza, crossing Fulton Street and Grand Avenue in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. There's a free concert for kids each month, April-September.
