A walking tour of notable African Americans buried at the Cypress Hills Cemetery

Come take a walk through history, in a special tour of Cypress Hills Cemetary.
Brooklyn is the birthplace of a large number of notable African Americans, many of whom are buried at one of the most beautiful and pristine cemetaries located but a few miles from Bedford-Stuyvesant.
The event is sponsored by District Leader Robert E. Corney, the Cypress Hills Cemetary, the Brooklyn Public Library, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc (Alpha Upsilon Chapter), Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. (Brooklyn Alumnae Chapter) and We Make Us Better.

Some of the Brooklyn notables to be surveyed along the tour include:
- Jackie Robinson, the first African American to enter Major League Baseball
- Arturo Schomburg, collector of African-American history and cultural artifacts
- Nella Larsen, noted writer of the Harlem Renaissance
- Ethel Cuff Black, one of 22 founders of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority
- James McCune Smith, the first African American to earn a medical degree
