High-End Brooklyn Restaurant Mekelburg’s To Close After Nearly A Decade
Mekelburg's, a Brooklyn sandwich shop that sells a babka parfait for $18, is closing after a nearly decade in business.
BROOKLYN, NY — After nearly a decade serving comfort food and craft beer, Brooklyn market and restaurant Mekelburg’s is closing.
The team announced the news on Instagram, saying Jan. 1 will be its last day in business at its remaining Williamsburg location near Domino Park.
"What a ride it’s been," the statement said. "Ten years of feeding people we love. Ten years of regulars who became family, neighbors who became friends, and first-timers who somehow always found their way back. Ten years of memories made over babka, hot chicken, wings, beer, trivia, late nights, early mornings, and everything in between."

No explanation for the closure was given, but Mekelburg’s adds to a growing wave of Brooklyn businesses that have shut down in recent years amid the city’s tough economic climate.
The restaurant most recently operated out of a 4,000-square-foot space at 319 Kent Ave. in Williamsburg, which opened in 2022.

Mekelburg’s first launched in Clinton Hill in 2015 before closing that original location last year. Over the years, the spot built a following for its curated specialty goods, stacked sandwiches, and regular community events.
Fans of Mekelburg’s kept coming back for its comforting, home-style dishes, from the indulgent “Mek and Cheese” to hearty sandwiches like a Cuban, tuna melt, chicken parm and the celebrated Nana’s Meatloaf, which earned accolades from The Infatuation and Bon Appétit as one of the city’s best sandwiches.
"To our guests: thank you for choosing us, supporting us, celebrating with us, and letting us be part of your lives for a full decade," the team said.
