BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — A new independent union at a Bed-Stuy bar is moving "Oddly" fast.

The Brotherhood of Oddly Enough Workers, which first filed an independent union application less than a month ago, is moving quickly to gain recognition from both the National Labor Relations Board and their employers at the relatively new queer Bed-Stuy bar, Oddly Enough.

According to the union's docket, the group filed both a notice of election and a stipulated election agreement, meaning the rules of the election have been agreed to by both parties.

The documents hint that the union is prepared to win the election vote among the bar's nine employees.

It could also signal that the bar owners, Laura Poladsky and Caitlin Frame, have declined to voluntarily recognize the union, necessitating the election.

At the same time, unions can call for elections even if management offers voluntary recognition as a way to get more buy-in and legitimacy from members.

Patch reached out to a representative of the bar who could not get a comment from the owners.

A member of the union also did not return a request for comment.
