Bed-Stuy Playground Slated For 'Long-Overdue' $24 Million Remodel
St. Andrew's Playground has needed renovation for decades, electeds say.

BED-STUY, NY — Bed-Stuy's St. Andrew's Playground was slated for a "long-overdue" renovation to the tune of $23.9 million, authorities announced this month.
First announced by Mayor Eric Adams in early September, electeds and community leaders on Monday celebrated the huge investment to the park on Atlantic Avenue between St Andrews Place and Kingston Avenue.
"It's been 40 years since this park has seen any investment at all," Ossé said. "We are so proud of what we achieved here."

Improvements will include a revamped playground, sports court, restrooms, turf field and running track, according to the city's Planning department.
“With new play areas for kids, revamped sports facilities, additional seating and shade, storm resiliency infrastructure, and more, we are investing in a community space that the neighborhood can cherish for generations," said Parks department Commissioner Sue Donoghue in a statement. "I can’t wait to see the park’s transformation begin!”

Investments in the playground come from the Parks department's Community Parks Initiative and the NYC Strategy for Equity and Economic Development Fund.
The park's investment was initially announced in tandem with rezoning plans for a 13-block stretch of Central Brooklyn along Atlantic Avenue.
The community-led rezoning project will see improvements to Central Brooklyn's affordable housing stock, business and open space — complimented by the major investment in St. Andrew's. The plan will also include street safety initiatives.
"New York City isn’t just building new housing — we’re investing in communities," said HPD Commissioner Adolfo Carrión, Jr earlier in September.
