Bed-Stuy Rep Hakeem Jeffries Elected Dems' House Leader

Jeffries will be the first Black American to head a major political party in Congress, according to reports.

BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — Brooklyn's in the House!

Bed-Stuy Congress Member Hakeem Jeffries was elected Wednesday by his fellow Democrats to lead their party in the House of Representatives, according to reports.

Jeffries will succeed California Rep. Nancy Pelosi, who served as the leader of House Dems for two decades.

While the Democrats will be in a narrow minority once the new Congress meets in January, Jeffries position as House minority leader means that he will join Senator Chuck Schumer, fellow Brooklyn resident and current Senate majority leader, to head their party in both legislative chambers, giving Brooklyn the power that the greatest borough has always deserved.
