Bed-Stuy Resident Honored at United Nations
Dr. Kim Best, 79th Pct. Community Council President, receives UN community service award
On Monday, Dr. Kim Best, a Bed-Stuy resident and the president of the 79th Pct. Community Council President, was honored at the United Nations for her years of activism and service to her community.
The National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) of the United Nations presented Dr. Best with a "Program Excellence Award," for her work in addressing social, cultural, health and education issues affecting people of African descent.
"[We] have reviewed the programs you have developed and organized through the 79th Precinct Community Council," Dianne E. Toppin, a United Nations representative wrote in a letter to Dr. Best. "They demonstrate your strong desire as an exceptional leader to empower and educate people of African descent. We commend your passion and commitment of service locally."

Dr. Kim Best is the eldest of nine children. She holds numerous degrees and a Ph.D.
Dr. Best has been involved in community service for over 40 years and holds a numerous degrees and a Ph.D. Aside from the precinct community council board, Dr. Best is also an active member of Community Board #3 and Keywoman of America-Brooklyn Branch.
Also, she is the recipient of many awards: Special Congressional Award, City Council Citation Award, Senator Velmanette Montgomery Outstanding Community Service Award, Congressional Award 2006, Marty Markowitz Community Service Award 2009 and the Brooklyn Blizzards Youth Organization Community Service Award 2009, amongst others.
