Bed-Stuy State Rep Sez Birds Are Friends, Hosts ‘ThanksVegan’ Giveaway

State Senator Jabari Brisport is hosting a giveaway of vegan roasts on Wednesday for all of those wishing to keep bird off the menu.

BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — Birds have an ally in Albany this Thanksgiving.

On Wednesday at noon, State Senator Jabari Brisport will be hosting a vegan roast giveaway in Bed-Stuy at Restoration Plaza.

Dubbed ‘ThanksVegan,’ the senator is teaming up with PETA and Humane Long Island (along with what is described as a "festive turkey mascot") to offer meat-free alternatives for vegans and friends of birds alike.

“This giveaway is all about uplifting the community with delicious, healthy meals that don’t require using animals,” said Brisport in a statement. “The meat industry is horrendously abusive to animals and exploitative of its workers. My friends at PETA and I are committed to making vegan eating accessible to all.”

The event comes in the wake of a PETA investigation at a so-called "humane" turkey farm based in Pennsylvania.

In 2021, an undercover investigator for the animal rights group worked at several Plainville Farms locations in the Keystone state, documenting repeated instances of animal abuse and wanton cruelty against the notoriously intelligent bird.

Packaging for the farm's turkeys promise that their birds are "humanely raised" in a "stress free environment," a description far removed from what PETA's investigation documented on the ground.

Last month, 11 former farm workers across various Plainville Farms locations were arrested and charged with animal cruelty as a result of PETA's investigation.

“With Sen. Brisport’s help, we are happy to share hearty vegan roasts that spread comfort to local families and spare gentle turkeys a terrifying death,” wrote PETA President Ingrid Newkirk in a statement. “PETA encourages everyone to leave animals off their plates this holiday and every day.”
