Bed-Stuy's Commercial Corridors Slated For Lighting Improvements
A city grant will allow Bed-Stuy community organizations to revitalize lighting in the neighborhood's commercial areas.
BED-STUY, NY — Bed-Stuy will see improved lighting in commercial corridors thanks to recent city grant funding.
Two Bed-Stuy organizations, the Bedford Stuyvesant Gateway Business Improvement District and Bridge Street Development Corporation, will share part of a $1.5 million plot to revamp the area's lighting over the next year.
The organizations will design, produce and install new customized lighting wherever necessary in Bed-Stuy's commercial areas, Small Business Services department officials announced last week.

"[The grant] will empower us to illuminate the path towards a brighter and safer future for Bedford-Stuyvesant, one light at a time," said Bridge Street Development Corporation President and CEO Gregory Anderson.
One other Brooklyn organization, BRIC Arts Media, received a small grant to help facilitate the lighting improvements, supporting with with community engagement, legal aide and professional development.

In Ocean Hill, the Bridge Street Development Corporation also received funding to help city officials target high-priority commercial needs to "guide future investments."
"We are investing in the future of our city and supporting our community partners in their efforts to create more secure and inviting neighborhoods," said City Council Member Julie Menin.
