BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — A woman who was hit and killed while pushing a stroller in Bed-Stuy on Thursday morning has been identified by police.

Rachel Gandel, 62, was only about a half a mile from her home on Leap Street when she was hit by a flatbed truck near Myrtle and Bedford avenues just before 11 a.m., according to police.

Gandel, who was pushing her 1-year-old niece in a stroller at the time, was found unconscious and unresponsive at the intersection and taken to Brooklyn Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, according to police and the New York Post.

The 1-year-old girl, who was sent to the hospital for evaluation, was not hit by the vehicle, police said.

Police sources told the Post that the 38-year-old driver who hit Gandel had been stopped at a light and was seated too high up to see her crossing in front of him. It was unclear who had a green light, according to the outlet.
