BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — A stretch of Putnam Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant will be restricted most of this week so city officials can install green infrastructure.

Curbside parking and sidewalk access will be limited on Putnam Avenue from Stuyvesant Avenue to Lewis Avenue from Tuesday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"No Parking" restrictions will be in effect in front of 704 and 702 Putnam Avenue, Christopher Taylor, Community Construction Liaison for the city's Department of Design and Construction, told Patch.

"If everything goes according to plan, the construction will be done by the end of the week, or sometime early next week," Taylor said.

The temporary access restrictions are required so the New York City Department of Design and Construction can install Green Infrastructure Infiltration Basins, which will reduce flooding and improve water quality in local waterways.

"Infiltration basins maintain the look and feel of the existing sidewalk while still offering sustainability benefits," the NYC Department of Environmental Protection said on a flyer. "They do not include the trees or tree guards you may have seen in our rain gardens."
