UPDATES: Mass Shooting in East New York, Brooklyn
At least 13 were injured when an unidentified shooter opened fire on a backyard house party.
UPDATE, 7:30 p.m.: Police have released surveillance footage of the shooting.
Nine people were shot at a BBQ/house party in the East New York neighborhood of Brooklyn in the wee hours of Sunday morning, police say.
Four additional victims were transported to a nearby hospital with “cuts and scrapes from debris,” according to an NYPD spokesperson.

Police say the shooting occurred at 2:15 a.m. in the backyard of 1140 Stanley Avenue, near Crescent Street.

The NYPD is listing the following victims as hospitalized in stable condition:
- 30-year-old female with a gunshot wound to the leg
- 24-year-old male with a gunshot wound to neck
- 19-year-old female with gunshot wounds to the neck and leg
- 38-year-old male with gunshot wounds to the arm and leg
- 24-year-old female with a gunshot wound to the leg
- 19-year-old female with a gunshot wound to the leg
- Another 19-year-old female with a gunshot wound to the leg
- 33-year-old female with a gunshot wound to the leg
- 26-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the leg
The first shooting victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital in Queens; the next six victims were taken to Brookdale Hospital in Brownsville; and the final two victims were taken to Kings County Hospital in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens.
The NYPD has not yet identified any suspects in the house-party shooting. ”Everything is still up in the air,” says a police spokesperson.
“The energy inside the party was good,” a party-goer who wasn’t injured tells the New York Post. “I heard the shots, but it was not from inside, something was going on outside.”
In the minutes following the backyard bloodbath, the Post reports that ”the carnage spilled out into the streets; one of the victims was found a block away at Loring Avenue and Crescent.”
Faylo Alston, a resident at the nearby Pink Houses, said he heard more than five shots.
“I was on my way to the store,” he said. “Everyone laid down on the ground, and when the shooting stopped, everyone got up and ran. Everyone scattered.”
