Reports of Shots Fired in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn

In the middle of the afternoon.

Multiple shots rang out on Tuesday afternoon in central Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, near Tompkins and Willoughby avenues around 2:10 p.m., according to nearby resident Amanda Mester.

Mester said on Twitter the shots were “quite loud,” and that NYPD officers were “teeming all over the block” in the immediate aftermath of the apparent shooting.

A woman at the 79th Precinct’s community affairs desk confirmed around 2:20 p.m. that police had just responded to shots fired, although she was under the impression that the shooting had occurred a bit further south.

No injuries were immediately reported.

The NYPD’s press office could not confirm the reports. “We don’t usually get any information about shots fired” if no one is hurt, an NYPD spokesman told Patch. “That’s not an unusual occurrence.”
