Brooklyn Council Member To Join Biden Administration: Report
Council Member Alicka Ampry-Samuel is slated to become the regional director of the federal department of Housing and Urban Development.

BROOKLYN, NY — A Brooklyn City Council member is slated to join the Biden administration, according to reports.
Council Member Alicka Ampry-Samuel — whose 41st District includes parts of Bed-Stuy and Crown Heights — will be appointed by President Joe Biden a regional director for the department of Housing and Urban Development, the Daily News reports.
Ampry-Samuel will head the New York and New Jersey region for the federal department.

The appointment will follow a recommendation from U.S. Senate majority leader and fellow Brooklyn lawmaker Chuck Schumer, who wrote a letter to Biden last month urging him to appoint Ampry-Samuel, according to the News.
Ampry-Samuel has previously worked in the New York City Housing Authority and represents the largest concentration of public housing in the nation. Her district in Brooklyn includes 27 public housing developments.

She will replace controversial Trump official Lynne Patton, who held no previous experience in public management when she was appointed to the HUD position.
The Brooklyn council member is the latest New York City politician to take a spot in the president's administration.
Most recently, Biden tapped New York City Department of City Planning Director Marisa Lago to join his Department of Commerce.
