Brooklyn's Broadway Needs Repairs, Community Boards Say: Report

The road has not been worked on since 1986. Local officials, calling it dangerous, will lobby for repairs next month, BK Reader reported.

BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — A stretch of Broadway in Brooklyn has been falling into disrepair for decades. Now, three Brooklyn community boards are coming together to try to get it fixed, BK Reader reported.

Brooklyn's Broadway between Flushing and Jamaica Avenues has "lumps, bumps, cracks and giant crevasses you can stand your whole foot in," the news outlet reported.

Celestina Leon, Bushwick's Community Board 4 District Manager, told BK Reader she believes the last time the road was improved was the "Broadway Reconstruction Project of 1986."

Now, Community Boards 3, 4, and 16 are planning to tell officials to prioritize repairs in this month's budget process, according to the news outlet.

"(The road is) dangerous for everyone," Henry L. Butler, Community Board 3 District Manager, told BK Reader. "You can’t call yourself a top-notch city and have a commercial roadway looking like that."
